Here are a few winter moving tips to keep in mind

-

Moving is known to be one of the most stressful events that you can experience. Moving during the winter can only add to your moving stress. It’s colder, the roads and streets are slick with ice, and the move can be very difficult to navigate during winter storms. Although there can be added worries to your move, we’re here to help. To help ease your moving stress we’re sharing some of our top moving tips for moving during the winter.

Winter Moving Tips

Clear a path

Providing a clear pathway when moving your items allows for a quicker and safer move. Make sure to shovel your sidewalks and your driveway at both your old and new residence.

Watch the Weather

Keep an eye out for what the weather will be like on the day of the move as the weather can change quite rapidly. Often slushy snow will turn to ice within a few hours. It’s also important to remember that there is much more darkness during the winter, so keep in mind the time of day you’re moving as well.

Emergency supplies

Because of the harsher winter climate, you never know what might happen during a move. Create an emergency kit of items that you will need in case of an issue. We recommend carrying kitty litter, a shovel, a first aid kit, food and road flares as go-to’s for your kit.

Clothing

Dress in layers. On moving day you’ll be moving around quite a bit and will no doubt build up a sweat throughout the day. Make sure to have the proper amount of layers of clothing so that you’re not too cold or warm.

Light the path

As mentioned earlier, it gets much darker during the winter time and for that reason, the outdoors becomes much less visible during the day. Plan to have your heating and electricity hooked up so that you can turn your lights on at your new home.

Protect your floors

Cover your floors with old sheets or tarps to avoid any tracking of snow or mud into your home. It will not only protect your floors during your move but will also help to keep them clean for your new home.

Towels

Keep extra towels or rags on hand to clean up the moisture that may build up on your feet, the truck, or the moving ramp during the move. Aim to make the moving process safe every step of the way.
